Taiwan Representative Office in New Zealand holds Taiwan Night. Paul Ou supports Taiwan’s participation in the United Nations

The Chinese Representative Office in New Zealand co-organized the "Taiwan Alumni Association-Taiwan Night" event with the New Zealand Asia Foundation yesterday. Ambassador Ou Jiang'an, the representative in New Zealand, attended and delivered a speech. He pointed out that the United Nations Resolution 2758 should not be misquoted to exclude Taiwan from international participation. He emphasized that Taiwan has the ability and willingness to contribute to global challenges, and called on all walks of life in New Zealand to support Taiwan's meaningful participation in the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

The "Taiwan Alumni Association" is jointly organized by the "New Zealand Asia Foundation" and the "Representative Office in New Zealand" every Mid-Autumn Festival, inviting New Zealand youths, scholars and friends from all walks of life who have studied, researched, worked and traveled in Taiwan to gather for exchanges. Ambassador Ou Jiangan, the representative in New Zealand, also attended and delivered a speech.

Ou Jiangan said that countries around the world are also facing the challenge of climate change, and Taiwan's participation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) can leverage its advantages in green technology, renewable energy, and climate resilience to jointly respond to and find solutions with the international community.

In response to China's long-term distorted interpretation of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and improper connection with the "one-China principle", Ou Jiangan bluntly stated that this should not be an excuse to exclude Taiwan from participating in the United Nations system. He emphasized that Taiwan's participation in the international community hopes to bring its own experience and resources into global governance; Ou Jiangan expressed his confidence Taking climate change as an example, I pointed out that Taiwan and New Zealand are island countries in the Indo-Pacific, and both are committed to promoting the net-zero transformation in 2050. In the face of climate change, this requires the participation of capable and willing partners from around the world. Taiwan is ready to participate in the United Nations and related specialized agencies and contribute to the world.
