Zhang Junjie’s Chinese connections span the unification group, aboriginal ethnic exchanges, and China’s Taiwan-related and ethnic affairs systems. He once served as the president of the Xia Chao Federation, the secretary-general of the China Unification Alliance, and the executive director of the Aboriginal Tribe Task Force. After entering Gao Jin Sumei’s parliamentary office in 2002, he was responsible for long-term exchanges and related activities with China, and was regarded as Gao’s core staff and practical operator.

Although the prosecutor opposed Zhang's bail on the grounds that Zhang had overseas financial resources, his eldest daughter lived in Beijing and had not arrived at the case, the Beijing Prosecutor's Office still ruled that Zhang Junjie should be released on bail for 10 million yuan and be subject to technological monitoring. Unexpectedly, Zhang lost contact after destroying and discarding his electronic bracelet late at night on the 6th. The North Hospital has issued a wanted order until 2059.
