CGIL celebrates 120 years in Milan with Landini and Mattarella

"We are 120 years old, we are very well and we want to move forward with great strength." This was stated by the general secretary of the CGIL Maurizio Landini as he opened the two-day event in Milan for the birth of the CGIL which took place in 1906 in the Lombard capital.

"Work is not canceled - he underlines - people are not canceled, the secretaries pass away, but the CGIL and work remain and we are fighting to truly affirm a world that is founded on social justice". "Today this is not the case - he says - but we have not lost hope".

"As we know - he continues - in our history no one has ever given rights away and if they exist it is because people who didn't have them fought to obtain them". "This is our history - he insists - this is the CGIL region and today we find ourselves not only celebrating our history, but asking ourselves the problem of how the memory of the struggles and conquests we have made is also made available to the new generations, to guarantee a future founded on another social model, on another development model, truly on freedom and democracy".

The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella is expected in Milan to celebrate the 120 years of the CGIL, who will remember the history of the confederation at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan on the second day of celebrations.
