Chapecoense and Atletico Nacional together in Medellín ten years after the plane tragedy

Ten years after the air tragedy that decimated Chapecoense and moved the world of football, the Brazilian club and Atletico Nacional met in Medellín (Colombia) to celebrate a friendship born in the tragedy.

At the Atanasio Girardot stadium, where in 2016 the final first leg of the South American Cup should have been played between the two teams, the teams drew 1-1, but the result took a back seat on a day dedicated to the 71 victims of the plane crash that occurred on 28 November 2016.

The players of both teams wore armbands reading "71 siempre presentes" and before kick-off they gathered in the center of the pitch for the national anthems, before posing together in a symbolic photo.

In the 10th minute, the match was stopped and the crowd stood up to applaud the victims.

Among those present, Hélio Neto, former Chapecoense player and one of the six survivors of the accident.

"I hope with all my heart that this brotherhood will last for many more years," he said, thanking Atlético Nacional for the support offered after the catastrophe.

The Colombian club had asked the South American Confederation (Conmebol) to award Chapecoense the title of the 2016 Copa Sudamericana, which later became the Brazilian club's only international trophy.
