Cemeteries in Rome: bodies torn to pieces before their time, 7 dismissals and 4 suspensions in Ama

They cut the bodies into pieces before the legal time to empty the burial niches. Seven employees were fired by the AMA and four suspended from service for irregularities in cemetery operations, after checks carried out on the activities of some teams of Technical-Cemetery Operators at the Flaminio and Maccarese cemeteries. The measures were adopted in relation to the different levels of responsibility ascertained. The Company is also proceeding, in compliance with the provisions of the Mortuary Police Regulations, with the transmission of the documents to the Judicial Authority and the Mayor.

The investigations highlighted, in some cases, the execution of reductions in ossuary boxes in the absence of the necessary mineralization of the bodies. The legislation provides that the transposition in the ossuary is permitted only after 30 years from the burial. For bodies not yet mineralized, another cemetery operation must be carried out, with different methods and costs. It should in fact be remembered that reducing the body to a small ossuary box allows the family to free up the space occupied by the burial and therefore guarantees savings compared to the cost of maintaining the body in the previous arrangement.
