At least five people died in separate incidents recorded between the night of Saturday (7) and the early hours of this Sunday (8) in Salvador. The cases occurred in the neighborhoods of São Rafael, Engomadeira, Estrada das Barreiras and Gamboa. Two of the deaths were recorded in the Gamboa region, where two were also injured during a morning marked by an intense exchange of gunfire and police actions.
According to information from the Military Police and the Civil Police, two deaths occurred in clashes with police in the neighborhoods of São Rafael and Engomadeira. Another man was found dead with gunshot wounds on Estrada das Barreiras. In Gamboa, one person died during an armed attack and another died after exchanging gunfire with police officers.
São Rafael: suspect dies after confrontation with police
A man died after exchanging gunfire with military police officers from the 50th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM) on Saturday night (7), on Rua São Carlos, in São Rafael.
According to the PM, teams were patrolling the region when they identified an armed man who was believed to be trafficking drugs. According to the corporation, upon noticing the agents approaching, the suspect shot at the officers and there was a retaliation.
After the confrontation, he was found injured and taken to a health unit, but he succumbed to his injuries.
A 9 mm caliber pistol, 172 portions of marijuana, 63 rocks of crack and R$56 in cash were seized from the man. The material was sent to the Civil Police. According to the PM, a rifle, magazine and ammunition were seized from the man.
The Civil Police registered the case as death due to the intervention of a public security agent and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Ironing machine: man dies in exchange of gunfire with Rondesp
Also in the early hours of this Sunday (8), a man died after an exchange of gunfire with Rondesp Central teams in the Engomadeira neighborhood.
According to the PM, the agents were carrying out an intensified policing operation when they were met with gunfire by armed men. After the confrontation, a suspect was found injured and carrying a firearm.
He was taken to a health unit in the region, but did not survive.
During the incident, the police seized a 9 mm caliber pistol with a laser sight and suppressed numbering, an extended magazine, ammunition and several quantities of drugs, including cocaine, crack, marijuana and ecstasy.
The Multiple Homicide Police Station (DHM) registered the case as a death resulting from police intervention.
Estrada das Barreiras: man is found dead with his hands tied
Also on Saturday night, a man was found dead on Rua Santa Bernadete, in the Estrada das Barreiras region, in Salvador.
According to the Military Police, teams from the 23rd CIPM were called after reports of a person lying on the ground, victim of gunshots.
The victim had his hands tied and had several gunshot wounds to his face.
The Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) reported that the victim has not yet been formally identified. The authorship and motivation of the crime are investigated by the 2nd Homicide Police Station (DH/Central).
Gamboa: Early morning armed attack, two dead, police clash and shot
The Gamboa region concentrated the highest number of victims during the early hours of this Sunday. According to the PM, two separate incidents were recorded approximately 40 minutes apart.
At around 4:30 am, approximately 15 armed men, wearing balaclavas and clothing similar to military uniforms, invaded the Solar do Unhão location and fired shots at residents.
One person died at the scene and another was shot. The injured man was awaiting treatment from Samu when police teams arrived.
Residents reported that criminals had invaded the community during a dispute between rival groups.
Around 40 minutes earlier, at around 3:50 am, Rondesp teams were called after reports of the presence of armed and hooded men in the region.
According to the PM, there was a confrontation during a police raid. After the exchange of gunfire, a man was found injured carrying a rifle and was taken to the Ernesto Simões Filho Hospital, but he did not resist.
The Civil Police registered the incident as death due to the intervention of a public security agent.
According to the Civil Police, in addition to the suspect killed in the confrontation, a 60-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were shot during the episodes recorded in Gamboa.
The elderly man was rescued, but died at the State General Hospital (HGE). The woman survived and was taken to medical care.
