3-year-old girl dies after being shot by her 5-year-old sister in Guaratiba, in the West Zone of Rio

The child was taken to Rocha Faria Municipal Hospital, in Campo Grande, but did not survive his injuries.

According to the Military Police, the mother reported that she and the girls' father were sleeping when they were woken up by the sound of gunshots. The weapon, a pistol, was kept at home by the man, who had authorization as a Collector, Sports Shooter and Hunter (CAC).

The parents went to their daughter's room and found the 3-year-old child injured. The older sister said she was playing with the gun.

According to the mother's report, the parents took the girl by car to the Rocha Faria Municipal Hospital.

In a statement, the hospital management said that the victim was admitted to the unit in cardiorespiratory arrest. However, despite all the measures taken by the medical team, she did not survive her injuries.

The Military Police said that military police officers from 27⁰ BPM (Santa Cruz) were called to check the entry of a gunshot victim into Rocha Faria Hospital. According to the PM, at the scene, agents confirmed the child's death.

The case is investigated by the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC), which carries out an examination at the family home. When contacted, the Civil Police did not comment on the case.
