Claes Nordmark is acquitted by the Court of Appeal of accusations of sexual abuse

Claes Nordmark was charged with attempted rape, alternatively sexual assault or sexual harassment and assault, after an incident that occurred in early 2025.

He has always denied wrongdoing, but chose to step down from all his political positions when charges were brought.

"I do not want the prosecution to overshadow the important mission that politics has for Boden and Norrbotten. This does not change my attitude that I am innocent of the charges that will now be tried by the court," he wrote on Facebook.

Last summer, he was sentenced in the district court for sexual assault to a suspended sentence and community service. Now he is acquitted by the Court of Appeal, which P4 Norrbotten was the first to report on.

The court believes that words stand against words. In that situation, high demands are placed on the evidence of support, which in this case is considered to have limited probative value.

"The Court of Appeal does not consider that the investigation provides any clear answers to the question of what happened or to what extent the contact was voluntary. Overall, the Court of Appeal considers that the evidence presented by the prosecutor is not such that it meets the high standard of proof that applies in criminal cases," the court writes in its decision.

Claes Nordmark went through the verdict with his lawyer Anna Melander on Wednesday.

- It takes some time to melt. No one can imagine how difficult the situation has been when, from one day to the next, he is hung out with his name and picture and has to leave all political assignments, says Anna Melander.
