Concarneau pays tribute to navigator Charlie Dalin

It will be a huge celebration of the sea, just like what Charlie Dalin wanted. This Tuesday, September 15, Concarneau pays tribute to the winner of the 2024-2025 Vendée Globe, who passed away last June following cancer.

To experience this exceptional event, ICI Bretagne (formerly France 3 Bretagne) offers more than two hours of live broadcast, from 5 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. The show will be presented by Adélaïde Castier, journalist and manager of the maritime show Littoral, accompanied by Serge Herbin, one of the great voices of the sea.

For Charlie Dalin: more than 100 boats on the water

Our teams will also be present in the port of Concarneau and at sea to collect testimonies from sailors and residents who have come specially to participate in this moment of commemoration which is above all intended to be festive.

Nearly 100 boats are expected in the bay. From Optimists to Imocas, including Ultims, pleasure sailboats and even wingfoils, all sailing families will be represented to salute the great champion who chose Concarneau as his adopted city.

Several big names in offshore racing have been announced, including Yoann Richomme, Charlie Dalin's opponent during their duel in the last Vendée Globe, Michel Desjoyeaux, Jean Le Cam, Élodie Bonafous, Corentin Horeau and Sam Goodchild, who took over from Charlie Dalin aboard MACIF Santé Prévoyance.

A minute of noise and a show in the sky

The tribute was thought up by Charlie Dalin and his family. No minute of silence: a “minute of noise” will sound foghorns, sirens and applause throughout the bay.

The Patrouille de France and a daytime fireworks display must also take part in this great maritime festival.
