Relations between China and Japan have deteriorated to levels not seen in decades. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi while receiving a Japanese delegation led by former Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, Bloomberg reports.

According to the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the current relations between Beijing and Tokyo are again in a difficult situation that requires another normalization.

“This language underscores the depth of China's anger over [Japanese Prime Minister Sanae] Takaichi's statements last November in which she publicly linked the Taiwan crisis to the possible deployment of Japanese troops,” the story said.

Wang Yi also repeated China's demand for Takaichi to "correct" his statements, which China views as an affront to Beijing's claims to self-governing democracy and a violation of the political foundations of the bilateral relationship.
