The expulsion of Russian diplomats from Hungary is part of the information war, said Svetlana Zhurova, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations. She explained the actions of the European country in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban reported that Budapest had decided to expel ten Russian diplomats. According to her, the expelled employees of the Russian Embassy allegedly carried out activities in Hungary that “are unacceptable for diplomats in accordance with the Vienna Convention.” At the same time, Orban emphasized that the measures taken do not mean a severance of diplomatic relations with Russia.

The deputy suggested that Russian diplomats could be accused of espionage. “They don’t explain anything. What else can they show? Usually, when something is presented to ambassadors, it’s in the category of “You work for the secret services, you’re not diplomats, you’re undercover.” They have the same thing all the time. What kind of espionage? Who needs Hungary there?” - Zhurova spoke out.

Lenta.ru’s interlocutor also compared the expulsion of Russian diplomats with adding people to the database of the Ukrainian website “Peacemaker” and imposing personal sanctions. The purpose of these actions is to demonstrate the work to Europe, she is convinced.

“The main thing is to publicly announce it. What are they doing? How do they do it? What evidence? Why evidence? We just need to continue waging the information war. I have said and will continue to say: since NATO has increased the contributions of European countries to finance them, we must somehow explain to the population that this is not just like that. “Look, we are fighting with Russia here, we are expelling diplomats.” This is a purely information war,” the speaker shared.

According to the parliamentarian, former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban acted in the interests of his country and therefore did not touch the embassy employees. Now the authorities are organizing demonstrative expulsions in order to curry favor, she concluded.
