Federal deputy Duarte Jr. reports shooting attack on car in Morros (MA)

According to the police report, an armed man with his face covered threatened the deputy and fired approximately four shots at the car. Nobody was injured.

Federal deputy Duarte Jr. reported that his car was hit by 4 shots this Tuesday (29) in Morros, Maranhão. No one was injured in the campaign attack.

A vehicle intercepted the parliamentarian and a masked man got out making threats. The suspect said Duarte "had to stop" and that he knew he "was lying."

The suspect fired shots at the vehicle, hitting the tire, hood, pillar and rear window. He even pointed a gun and ordered them to throw their cell phones away.

Duarte was traveling only with the driver and waited for a police escort to leave the region. There is no information about the authorship or motivation of the attack.

Federal deputy Duarte Jr. (Avante) registered a police report after reporting that the car he was in was hit by four shots on Tuesday night (29), during a campaign schedule in Morros, Maranhão. Nobody was injured.

According to the bulletin registered with the Morros Civil Police, a vehicle approached the deputy's car and made sudden maneuvers until forcing the driver to stop. Then, an armed man with his face covered by a balaclava came down and threatened the parliamentarian.

According to the police record, the man called Duarte by name, said he "had to stop" and that he knew he "was lying." Then, according to the bulletin, the suspect fired around four shots, which hit the deputy's vehicle.

The bulletin indicates that the suspect was accompanied by another man, who remained inside the car. After the shots, the two fled and had not been identified until the publication of this report.

In an interview with TV Mirante, Duarte stated that the shots hit the tire, the hood, the column and a rear window of the vehicle. The deputy also said that he was only accompanied by the driver at the time of the attack.

According to the parliamentarian, after the shots, he and the driver got out of the car. Duarte said one of the suspects pointed a gun in their direction and ordered them both to throw their cell phones away.

The deputy also reported that the man made threats related to public statements made by him.

Duarte stated that he was on a campaign schedule in Morros when the attack occurred. According to him, part of the team had gone ahead in a support car, so he was only accompanied by one other person at that time.

After the episode, the deputy reported that he waited for support from a person responsible for his safety and a police vehicle to leave the region.

So far, there is no confirmation about who was responsible for the shooting or the motivation for the attack. After the episode, the deputy published a note on a social network.
