A package of measures initially launched as an immediate program should therefore be continued permanently. According to the report, the railway's previous programs have cleaned an area the size of 200 football fields and removed graffiti from an area of ​​17,000 square meters. 44 mobile teams of craftsmen repaired damage to train stations. In addition, an additional 220 employees are on the move every day for further cleaning work, which is twice as many as before. They would clean around 52,000 on-board toilets every week.

In addition to the usual cleaning in car washes, ICE trains should also be cleaned by hand. »The dirt has to go. That's why our teams pick up the brush themselves. They scrub until the ICE shines,” Palla said. »Our passengers should see as soon as the train pulls in: the railway takes care of quality down to the last detail.«

Since February: Millions for more cleanliness

Back in February, DB long-distance transport boss Michael Peterson and the then Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) presented a program that was intended to ensure more cleanliness and comfort in long-distance transport. To this end, around 20 million euros should flow into cleaning, a reliable on-board catering offer and the availability of facilities such as toilets.
