DFB President Neuendorf rejects Infantino as a reformer

The president of the world football association had previously responded to the ongoing criticism of his leadership style and offered his opponents talks about possible reforms in FIFA for the first time. “In principle, FIFA now seems to have recognized that changes are essential,” explained Neuendorf. However, Infantino is “definitely not the right person to moderate a reform process.” He had “lost all credibility.”

In addition to the DFB and others, the European Football Union Uefa is calling for Infantino's resignation as FIFA president and is preparing a criminal complaint against him in Switzerland. The background is Infantino's role in the now rejected plan to sell shares in the world association's tournaments to private investors.

However, Infantino remains committed to running for a fourth term as FIFA president at the March 2027 congress. UEFA and the football associations from North and Central America have not yet been able to name an opposing candidate for the presidential election.

Important dates now include a meeting between UEFA and all 55 member associations on October 8th in Berlin and the FIFA Council meeting on October 15th in Zurich. At the meeting, Infantino wants to talk about his reform proposals.
