Díaz-Canel launches a radio program and defends the opening to private initiative in Cuba

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has inaugurated his own radio program. In the first episode he defended the measures opening up to private initiative approved by Parliament in June, however clarifying that the island will not abandon socialism.

Cuba faces one of the worst crises in its history, worsened by the energy and financial siege imposed in January by the United States. "It's been nine months since a fuel ship has come in. How can we support the economy? How can we work in these conditions? How can we provide all the services the population needs? How can we revive production? Well, many of these answers are in these measures," he commented.

During the broadcast, messages from the population on recent reforms were broadcast. The rules provide the possibility of importing and exporting directly, hiring labor without state intermediation and greater flexibility for private banks. These are measures that were unthinkable in previous decades, an era characterized by strong state centralism.
