Sheinbaum responds to Trump: invites the US to respect Mexican sovereignty

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to Donald Trump's statements to the UN on cartels. During her press conference, the leader framed the US politician's words in the context of the November elections, inviting Washington to focus on its internal problems and respect national sovereignty.

Sheinbaum chose the path of irony to reject criticism of territorial control. “I could say that it is very difficult to live next to a country that has such a high level of illicit drug use or such weapons production, but I won't say that because we have good relations,” he said.

The president also pointed out that the press ignored part of Trump's speech, which recognized joint progress. Sheinbaum reiterated that he does not want to fuel continuous controversy, confirming that bilateral work on security is progressing positively and in a climate of maximum collaboration.
