Ko Wenzhe criticizes universal cash bidding: Vulgarization of Taiwan’s politics will only hollow out the country

President Lai Qingde recently announced that next year's universal cash payment will be NT$10,000. Fu Kunqi, the Kuomintang League chief, proposed to increase the amount and strive for a universal cash distribution of NT$20,000 per person. In response to this, Ko Wenzhe, the founding chairman of the People's Party, responded in Yilan today, pointing out that Taiwan's politics have become vulgar and reduced to endless bidding, which will ultimately only lead to "everyone's hard work to hollow out Taiwan."

In response to the blue camp's call for increasing the amount of universal cash, Ko Wenzhe said in an interview, "Then the next one will say 30,000, and that's what it is now. This will never end. Anyway, Taiwan's politics are so vulgar now, 10,000 becomes 20,000, and next time it will be 30,000. Everyone is working hard to hollow out Taiwan."

Regarding the background of universal cash, the Executive Yuan allocated 235.7 billion yuan in the central budget for 2016. In line with the "AI dividend shared by all" recently announced by President Lai Ching-te, it is planned to distribute 10,000 yuan to everyone next year. In order to complete it before the Spring Festival next year, the Kuomintang League plans to prioritize the review of relevant budgets and discuss ways to allow the 10,000 yuan for general distribution to be spent first.

However, Fu Kunqi called the priority bill of the Kuomintang League in the new session "repaying taxes to the people" and advocated a universal cash payment of 20,000 yuan. Some people in the Kuomintang also proposed that 10,000 yuan be distributed first this year and then receive the 10,000 yuan allocated by the Political Yuan next year.

In response to the blue camp's proposal, Zhuang Ruixiong, secretary-general of the Democratic Progressive Party Legislative Yuan Caucus, responded yesterday that the Legislative Yuan would speed up the review of the 10,000 yuan allocated so that people could receive the money as early as possible, which the DPP caucus was happy to see. However, this is two different things from Fu Kunqi, the general convenor of the Kuomintang League, who proposed a universal cash payment. The Kuomintang caucus should specify the source of the money. The Executive Yuan said that universal cash payments must be procedurally legal and constitutional.
