The EEC proposed introducing anti-dumping duties on truck tires from Thailand and Vietnam

The Department for the Protection of the Internal Market of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) proposed to introduce duties of 11-22 percent on truck tires supplied from Thailand and Vietnam for five years. Kommersant writes about this with reference to the report on the results of the anti-dumping investigation.

The department considered that suppliers cause damage to domestic producers, who are forced to reduce prices for their products compared to economically justified levels.

Duties of 17.05 percent are proposed for Thai Prinx Chengshan and Maxxis International, and 22.37 percent for other suppliers from this country. Vietnamese Jinyu will impose a duty of 11.31 percent, Vietnam COFO Tires - 14.99 percent, Sailun - 16.48 percent, Advance Tire and other enterprises in the country - 17.25 percent.

The investigation was initiated by the Russian Cordiant and the Nizhnekamsk Truck Tire Plant (part of Kama Tires), as well as the Belarusian Belshina.

They complained that imported products were consistently sold at lower prices. As a result, the production of truck tires in the EAEU countries in 2022-2024 fell by 5.6 percent, capacity utilization by 4.9 percent, and sales profit by 58.7 percent.

Meanwhile, tire importers during the investigation indicated that the introduction of duties would lead to higher tire prices and a lack of choice. In addition, they argue that the existing capacities in the EAEU will not be enough to meet demand, which the EEC did not agree with.

The commission's decision is, among other things, aimed at curbing Chinese expansion, since a number of companies from Thailand and Vietnam are part of holdings from the PRC. At the same time, duties on truck tires from China have been in effect since 2021.

SBS partner Dmitry Babansky notes that for the end consumer, the introduction of duties will result in an increase in prices through an increase in transportation tariffs.
