The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed recognizing the use of AI as an aggravating circumstance for libel, creation of malware and illegal access to information

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) has proposed making the use of AI an aggravating circumstance in the commission of crimes such as libel, creation of malware and unauthorized access to information. This was reported to TASS by the first deputy head of the department for organizing the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergei Kalinin.

The department, together with the Ministry of Justice and other interested bodies, is already taking an active part in the development of relevant draft federal laws.

Kalinin also noted the importance of preventive work in the fight against cybercrime and the use of deepfakes by fraudsters. It, according to him, should be enshrined in the Concept of increasing the level of digital literacy of citizens approved by the government of the Russian Federation.
