(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Gyu-jin = It was found that one out of four local governments are unable to accommodate 100% of their residents in evacuation facilities in the event of an emergency.

According to data received from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security on the 27th by Rep. Lim Ho-seon of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, the number of local governments with a civil defense evacuation facility occupancy rate of less than 100% as of the end of last year was calculated to be 55 (24%) out of 229 cities, counties, and districts across the country.

Looking at the acceptance rate by region, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do was the lowest at 4.3%.

This was followed by Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk (8.9%), Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (11.1%), Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk (16.5%), and Uiseong-gun (18.2%), in that order.

There were a total of 27 cities, counties and districts where the occupancy rate of civil defense evacuation facilities was less than 50%.

As of the end of last year, there were 17,184 civil defense evacuation facilities nationwide, and the nationwide occupancy rate was 271.0%.

Representative Lim said, “Even if the national occupancy rate is high, if there is not enough evacuation space where residents live, it is difficult to evacuate properly in an emergency.” He added, “We need to support securing evacuation facilities starting from areas with low occupancy rates and increase the space that residents can actually use.”
