Rosatom has successfully mastered the production of fuel for the multi-purpose fast neutron research reactor MBIR.

The first three fuel assemblies for the MBIR passed acceptance tests and were found suitable for operation.

The MBIR reactor, being built at the RIAR site, is the most important project for the long-term development of the experimental base of the domestic nuclear industry.

Rosatom has successfully mastered the production of fuel for the world's most powerful multi-purpose fast neutron research reactor MBIR, which is being built in Russia, the results of which will be necessary for the development of nuclear energy, the press service of the Research Institute of Atomic Reactors (NIIAR, Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk region) reported.

“At the site of the fuel technology department of JSC State Scientific Center - Research Institute of Nuclear Reactors (JSC State Scientific Center RIAR, part of the scientific division of the state corporation Rosatom), acceptance tests of the first three fuel assemblies (FA) for the MBIR nuclear research facility were carried out,” says a message on the RIAR website.

Based on the results of the work of the acceptance committee, the pilot batch was recognized as having passed the tests and was suitable for operation in the MBIR reactor.

“Experimental design work on the development of the fuel assembly of the MBIR reactor has been completed, the production of fuel assemblies in the RIAR fuel complex has been recognized by the commission as mastered,” emphasized the chief technologist - deputy head of the RIAR fuel technologies department, Elena Fokeeva, whose words are quoted in the message.
