Former state parliament vice-president Schlupp open to AfD vice-presidency

The outgoing long-time first vice president of the state parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Beate Schlupp, could imagine a deputy state parliament president from the ranks of the AfD. The debate about a vice-presidency for the AfD is extremely difficult. “I tend not to exclude them from it. “We want to win back AfD supporters,” said the CDU politician in an interview with the latest edition of “Landtag Nachrichten MV”.

Exclusion of the AfD parliamentarians would in turn lead to solidarity effects. The outgoing member of the state parliament does not expect any damage to parliamentarism from an AfD vice-president. “We are bound in a tight corset and have rules of procedure that must be enforced.” There isn't much leeway there. In addition, the AfD knows exactly: “If they don’t fill this position with qualifications, then it will fall on their feet.”

The CDU missed the five percent hurdle in the state elections and is no longer represented in the new state parliament, which is why Schlupp will no longer be a member of the new parliament. However, the AfD doesn't just want a deputy position. After the election, it was the strongest faction and claimed the office of President of the State Parliament.
