Emmanuel Macron announces a Choose France summit for January 18

Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that a Choose France summit would be held on January 18, his major annual meeting to attract foreign investment, which will thus be the last before his departure from the presidency in May. Speaking at a Franco-Spanish economic forum in Madrid, during a state visit, he called on “Spanish businesses and investors” to come “more to France,” despite already thriving trade between the two countries.

“This is the purpose of the Choose France that we have every year, we will have a session again on January 18,” declared the French president. The last edition of Choose France took place on June 1 and brought in 93 billion euros in investment announcements in France, a record, thanks to artificial intelligence and data centers. It was presented as the last edition of Emmanuel Macron's presidency, the summit having been organized in recent years between May and June.

An annual high mass established in 2018

The president, who will leave the Élysée Palace in mid-May after two terms, established this high mass, emblematic of his pro-business policy, shortly after coming to power in 2017 - the first edition took place in January 2018. He regularly makes it one of the main achievements of his record, France being for seven years the country in Europe which attracts the most foreign investment, according to the barometer of the consulting firm EY.

According to a close friend of the Head of State, the organization of Choose France just after the presidential election in 2027 would not give his successor time to complete the final investment agreements. With an edition in January, whoever is elected in May will be able, if they wish, to organize the next one as they wish.
