Scandal and pitched battle in the draw between Deportivo Cali and Atlético Bucaramanga

The match played on date 8 of the BetPlay League between Deportivo Cali and Atlético Bucaramanga at the Palmaseca Stadium ended in the midst of deep tension, marking one of the most scandalous episodes of the tournament so far. The match ended tied 1-1, but football took a backseat after a pitched battle, expulsions and serious questions about the behavior of Uruguayan coach Pablo Peirano.

An agonizing goal and the spark of conflict

Atlético Bucaramanga had taken the lead in the 72nd minute through José García. However, in added time, referee controversy and drama took over the stadium when the judge awarded a penalty in favor of Deportivo Cali, converted by Leyser Chaverra in the 90+9.

After the sugar tie was scored, the atmosphere on and off the field went completely out of control. According to the complaints of Rafael Dudamel – coach of Deportivo Cali – and videos spread on social networks, the coach of Bucaramanga, Pablo Peirano, carried out a series of inappropriate actions: he defiantly kicked a ball towards the field, angrily entered the field of play to recriminate the refereeing body and ended up involved in a brawl with footballers from the local team, even going so far as to allegedly attack Keimer Sandoval.

The altercation unleashed pushing, insults and an exchange of blows between members of both teams, resulting in the direct expulsions of José García (Bucaramanga) and Keimer Sandoval (Cali) himself.

Attempted invasion and suspension of the game

The tension on the field quickly moved to the stands. Given the chaos of the outcome, some fans opened access doors and tried to invade the field of play. Although the security authorities managed to partially contain the situation, the referee decided to end the match due to lack of guarantees to continue with the remaining two minutes.

Dudamel exploded; Peirano evaded the press

In the press conference after the match, Rafael Dudamel held nothing back and strongly criticized his colleague on the bench:

"It's a shame what my colleague (Peirano) has done, he kicked a ball, then he went to the middle of the field and there he attacked Keimer Sandoval. It's a shame that this happened," the Green and White strategist stated bluntly.

For his part, Pablo Peirano decided not to show his face to the media and sent his technical assistant, Javier Tetes, to attend the press conference. Tetes justified the suspension of the game by pointing out that "the judge had two actions played with people inside the field", separating the visiting delegation from the main incidents.

It is expected that in the next few hours the Dimayor Disciplinary Commission will analyze the referee sheets and security videos to issue severe sanctions to both the footballers and members of the coaching staff involved, as well as the Palmaseca stadium for failures in the security of the show.
