Ex-president of Kosovo sentenced to 25 years in prison for war crimes

According to information from the Reuters news agency, Thaci was held responsible for crimes such as murder, torture and illegal detention committed during the conflict that marked Kosovo's separation from Serbia in the 1990s.

At the time, Thaci was the top commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (ELK), a group with an ethnic Albanian majority that fought for the territory's independence.

The court found Thaci guilty of the deaths of 96 people who were considered political opponents or suspected of collaborating with Serbian security forces. According to the decision, the crimes were committed by members of the KLA during the conflict.
