Former president José Sarney, 96, is hospitalized with pneumonia in São Luís

Former president José Sarney, aged 96, remains hospitalized at UDI Hospital, Rede D'Or, in São Luís, for treatment of pneumonia. According to a medical bulletin released late this Monday afternoon (14), he has a favorable clinical evolution.

Sarney was hospitalized on Sunday (13), after suffering from a respiratory infection. Since then, he has remained under the care of the medical team.

According to the update released by the hospital, the former president continues to be treated for pneumonia. Despite the favorable evolution, there is still no forecast for hospital discharge.

In the first medical bulletin, released after hospitalization, the team reported that Sarney was in stable clinical condition, with his blood pressure under control, breathing room air and receiving treatment with intravenous antimicrobials.

On social media, the former president reported that he was hospitalized for tests and treatment for pneumonia. He also thanked the expressions of support received.

"My health condition is stable and I am still under medical supervision. I am affectionately grateful for all the messages, prayers and expressions of friendship I have received," he wrote.
