Former rubber soldier turns 100 and transforms birthday into an act of solidarity in Amazonas

Former rubber tapper Francisco Bezerra turned 100 and gathered his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to celebrate the milestone in Benjamin Constant, in the interior of Amazonas. Born in the rural area of the municipality, he started working at a young age in farming and fishing, and in his teens, he began working in latex extraction during the Amazon rubber boom.

The party was also marked by solidarity. Instead of gifts, Francisco asked guests to bring non-perishable food items. The donations were enough to assemble 14 basic food baskets, which will be delivered to churches and organizations that assist vulnerable families.

From an early age, Francisco helped his family with farming and fishing activities. While still a teenager, he began working as a "rubber soldier." Throughout his life, he raised a family of ten children. For his relatives, reaching the age of 100 represents more than just celebrating longevity. It is also a way to preserve the stories and teachings he passed down to new generations.

"As a father, he taught us a legacy of generosity, of faith—because he has a lot of faith, he is a Christian," said his daughter, Antônia Bezerra.

During the celebration, family members shared stories about the centenarian's journey and the values he imparted throughout his life.

"I never imagined this blessing, because 100 years is 100 years. The centenarian is an example in my family. Look at his lifelong health right there. I pray to God to reach that same age," stated the elderly man's grandson, Fábio Anderson.

Birthday turns into a gesture of solidarity

The family's initiative transformed the celebration into an opportunity to help others. The collected food will be distributed to institutions that assist vulnerable families in the municipality. In all, 14 basic food baskets were assembled, which will be given to churches and organizations in Benjamin Constant.
