Shen Boyang concluded his visit to Japan and summarized the exchange results and cooperation directions between Taiwan and Japan

Democratic Progressive Party candidate for Taipei mayor Shen Boyang’s pop-up visit to Japan will end tonight. He concluded that he received a large number of opinions from the aspects of industry, talent, urban renewal, security and resilience, including support groups, youth forums in Japan, and exchanges with members of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party. The discussions ranged from submarine cables, private defense, and medical care to the content industry and national soft power. The number of topics was “unstoppable.”

Shen Boyang said that the first stop of his visit to Japan was the support club establishment event held in Tokyo on the 12th. He felt the high enthusiasm of the overseas Chinese community in Japan at the scene, and it also allowed him to directly contact the expectations of Taiwanese people working and living in Japan for Taipei Municipal Government and Taiwan's future.

He also talked about former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s proposition at the support event that “whatever happens to Taiwan means something will happen to Japan.” He recalled that when he was involved in relevant research in the past, Abe’s proposition was like a “shot in the arm,” making Taiwan’s security no longer just a friendly issue, but directly connected to the security of Japan and the Japan-US alliance.

On the 13th, Shen Boyang held a discussion with about a hundred Taiwanese young people in Japan in Ebisu, Tokyo. Shen Boyang said that the young people in Japan come from different industries and have put forward many specific ideas on how to return talents and how to exchange talents between Taiwan and Japan. They also conducted a lot of brainstorming on urban renewal, AI urban governance, urban resilience, housing issues and employment opportunities.

Today, as a legislator of the Democratic Progressive Party, Shen Boyang attended the exchange meeting between the Democratic Progressive Party and the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan with party legislators Guo Guowen and Wu Siyao. This exchange has been upgraded from the previous "two plus two" to "five plus five", and the scope of discussion has expanded from national defense and economic security to education, science, culture and soft power.

He said that today’s discussion with Japanese parliamentarians was more focused, with communication methods covering think tanks, private sector, industry, official and academic institutions. The topics ranged from submarine cables, social resilience, private defense and medical care, to content industry and cultural soft power, and the meeting time even exceeded the original schedule.

Shen Boyang said that in the past three days, the opinions he had come into contact with varied from the overseas Chinese community, young people to Japanese parliamentarians, but the common point was the hope that Taiwan and Japan could establish more institutionalized and concrete cooperation. He said that he still hopes to continue to deepen exchanges on these issues in the future and transform the experience learned from this visit to Japan into specific directions for Taipei Municipal Government and Taiwan-Japan cooperation.
