The Russian Embassy in Ireland called talk of a possible blockade of Kaliningrad by NATO countries irresponsible, emphasizing that such attempts could lead to a military response from Russia.

The diplomatic mission drew attention to recent speculation in European political circles and the media about the Russian Federation’s alleged intention to launch an invasion of Europe and conduct hybrid attacks on European countries, although there is no basis for such allegations. At the same time, as the embassy notes, in recent months military exercises with anti-Russian scenarios have been continuously carried out on NATO’s eastern flank, and there have also been reports that NATO is preparing an air and sea blockade of the Kaliningrad region.

“The irresponsible and short-sighted European political elite is playing a dangerous game... In this scenario, there is a high risk of armed confrontation with the possibility of Russia launching preemptive strikes on decision-making centers in the alliance countries at an early stage of the conflict,” the embassy said in a commentary published on social networks.

The embassy said that this issue is extremely serious and Europe must treat it accordingly.

“Russia will be ready to use its entire arsenal, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory if NATO countries try to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of the country,” the report notes.
