Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department clarified six old murder files

Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department brought to light six more unsolved murder cases.

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek said that with the recently clarified files, the curtain of secrecy on the files containing 52 victims and seven injured people in 46 files has been lifted.

DEATH OF SEVEN-YEAR-OLD MEDINA

The file regarding the death of seven-year-old Medine Kesmeni, who was found seriously injured in the roadside irrigation canal in Bursa's Mustafakemalpaşa district in 2020 and died a day later, was re-examined in this context.

In the reopened file, vehicle parts found at the scene within the scope of the investigation, PTS and base records, and new witness statements were evaluated together.

Suspect Erkan Edincik was arrested for intentional homicide through negligence.

THE BONES FOUND IN DIYARBAKIR BELONGED TO A WOMAN

Another file is about an incident that took place in Bismil district of Diyarbakır.

The bones, which were found in the stream bed in Bismil in 2014 and whose identity had not been determined for 12 years, were determined to belong to Dilek Kalkan, who disappeared in 2013, through DNA analysis.

After the file was reopened, six of the seven suspects considered to be linked to the incident were detained.

Efforts are continuing to capture a suspect.

MURDER IN IZMIR SOLVED

The murder suspects of Mehmet Köstekçi, who was killed on March 8, 2026 in Torbalı district of Izmir, were also caught.

Köstekçi was shot and killed while he was going home.

Eight suspects were identified as part of the investigation. All suspects were detained during the operation.

FELOMEZ KULAC MURDER IN MUŞ

In the file of Felemez Kulaç, who was killed by an armed attack in Hasköy district of Muş in 2011, the hostility dating back to 1988 and the activity before and after the incident were revealed again with HTS, base and PTS records.

11 people were caught and detained during operations against suspects related to the incident; Judicial proceedings against other suspects continue.

SEDAT ÜNAL MURDER IN NEVŞEHİR

Another file announced by Minister Gürlek is from Nevşehir's Ürgüp district.

The file of Sedat Ünal, who was killed and left on the side of the road in Ürgüp in 2008, was re-examined.

With the re-examination of criminal findings, DNA data and HTS records from 18 years ago, activity from the unlicensed casino where the victim was last seen to the crime scene was revealed.

Legal proceedings were initiated against seven suspects regarding the incident for intentional murder.

DEATH OF MEKİYE AKYEL

The file of Mekiye Akyel, who was killed in 2024 in Baykan district of Siirt, was also clarified.

In Akyel's file, an area of ​​190 thousand square meters was searched with hundreds of personnel.

Within the scope of the studies, digital footprints, HTS and PTS records, witness accounts and contradictory statements of the suspects were examined in detail.

As a result of the investigation, an indictment was filed against the suspects, including his ex-wife and his relatives, for the crimes of deliberate murder and deprivation of liberty, with a customary motive.
