Foreign Ministers of Russia and Germany Sergei Lavrov and Johann Wadeful began their meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly with a handshake.

The meeting was held at the initiative of the German side.

At the beginning of the protocol part of the negotiations, the ministers shook hands.

As official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters, the meeting took place on the initiative of the German side.

At the same time, she noted that representatives of the German diplomatic service demanded that media access to the meeting be limited, that there be no questions asked, that opening remarks not be recorded audio, and that an embargo be imposed on the exhibition of materials.
