State deputy Amilton Filho (MDB) died this Saturday (26) in a traffic accident on BR-050, in Cristalina, at the age of 41. He was traveling for a campaign schedule.
The parliamentarian was running for re-election and chaired the Constitution and Justice Commission. The Legislative Assembly of Goiás declared an official 5-day mourning period for what happened.
Born in Anápolis, Amilton began his political career in 2012 as a councilor. The parliamentarian's body will be laid to rest at the Newton de Faria International Gymnasium, at 3pm.
The politician's car crashed into a trailer on the highway and he died at the scene. As a result of what happened, several candidates canceled their campaign schedules.
Goiás deputy Amilton Filho (MDB) was 41 years old, married and father of two children, and resident of Anápolis, in the central region of Goiás. Amilton died after suffering a traffic accident while on his way to a campaign agenda this Saturday (26), on BR-050, in Cristalina, according to the Legislative Assembly of the State of Goiás (Alego).
Also according to information from Alego, Amilton was campaigning for re-election and was the current president of the Constitution, Justice and Writing Committee, a position he had held for the last 2 years. In mourning, the president of Alego, deputy Bruno Peixoto (UB), declared official mourning in the Legislative Branch for five days.
According to data from the Superior Electoral Court, Amilton was a candidate for the first time in 2012 for councilor of Anápolis by the Social Christian Party (PSC), when he was elected. He was a candidate again for the same position in 2016 for Solidariedade (SD) and was re-elected.
In a statement, Anápolis City Hall stated that Amilton was a great representative who sought to work for the well-being of the population and the development of the municipality.
Amilton became state deputy in 2018, still for the SD. He was re-elected in 2022 by the MDB by 46,556 votes, a party he was still a member of until the date of the accident.
On social media, the president of MDB Goiás, Haroldo Naves, mourned Amilton's death and highlighted that the politician was a great friend and an inspiration. The party also expressed solidarity with the candidate's wife, Ana Caroline, and children Samuel and Laura.
Amilton's body will be laid to rest in Anápolis, the politician's hometown, at 3pm, at the Newton de Faria International Gymnasium and buried at 6pm, at the São Miguel Cemetery.
Accident
Amilton was on his way to a campaign schedule when the vehicle he was in crashed into a trailer on BR-050. According to the Fire Department, the politician died at the scene.
According to the military, two other people, the driver and Amilton's videographer, were taken to the Chaud Salles Municipal Hospital, in Cristalina.
Tributes
The deputy's death caused commotion among colleagues. Some politicians, such as Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), candidate for President of the Republic, canceled their campaign agenda.
The agendas of deputies and candidates Antonio Gomide (PT), Charles Bento (MDB) and Cristiano Galindo (SD) were also canceled due to mourning.
On social media, Bruno published a note of condolence about the politician's death. He highlighted that Amilton will be missed and wished his family and friends strength to face the loss.
Deputy Dr. George Morais (MDB) stated that Amilton was dedicated and full of dreams and with several projects for the state, and had a long journey ahead of him.
