All Cocaine Packages Hidden in Judicial Deposit in Fiji Were Filled with Flour

In Fiji, which became one of the surprise stopping points of cartels shipping drugs from Latin America to Australia, 39 packages of cocaine, each weighing approximately 1 kilogram, were seized in an operation in 2019 and were kept in judicial custody.

Within the scope of the investigation launched when it was noticed that 7 of the cocaine packages mysteriously disappeared earlier this year, the remaining drug packages in the judicial depository in the Supreme Court building in the capital Suva were examined.

7 YEARS AGO IT WAS ALL COCAINE, NOW IT'S ALL FLOUR

Tests revealed that all of the packages containing cocaine were filled with flour. In the tests carried out at that time on the packages seized during a police operation 7 years ago, it was confirmed that all of them were full of cocaine and they were placed in judicial custody that way.

According to AFP, while no trace of a banned substance was found in any of the packages during the latest inspection, it was understood that all of the cocaine packages had "turned into flour".

Detectives are now trying to find the perpetrators of this incident, which took place under the nose of the police, in one of the safest places such as judicial custody.

“PACIFIC DRUG HIGHWAY”

Pacific islands such as Fiji and Tonga are located at the oceanic intersections of cocaine shipment routes from Latin America. This route, called the "Pacific drug highway", has also attracted attention in recent years with high amounts of synthetic methamphetamine smuggling.

Drugs shipped via this route are now somehow falling into the hands of local people, increasing the problem of drug addiction in such regions where serious crime cases are not normally seen.

In fact, since intravenous methamphetamine use increased HIV cases in Fiji, a state of emergency was recently declared in the country.
