Jaguar cubs rescued in Monte Aprazível will be transferred to Heron Zoo

The puma cubs rescued on October 10, 2025 by employees of a sugar and alcohol plant in Monte Aprazível (SP) after being lost from their mother will be transferred from the Zoobotânico de São José do Rio Preto (SP) this Wednesday (23).

The animals weighed around 850 grams each when they arrived at the site. After almost a year of rehabilitation, they will be sent to the Garça Zoo (SP).

Currently, the female weighs 30.5 kilos and the male weighs 39.8 kilos. According to the Zoobotânico team, the animals will continue to be treated even after the transfer, scheduled to take place from 8 am. The journey between the two cities is approximately 200 kilometers and lasts on average 2 hours and 50 minutes.

Rescue

Employees at the Monte Aprazível plant found the puppies while working. According to the Environmental Police, called in to help, the cats were possibly separated from their mother during the harvest. At the time, the cubs were around three to five weeks old and were taken to the Zoobotânico de São José do Rio Preto with hypothermia (body temperature below normal) and without injuries.
