Palestinian Prisoners and Released Delegation announced the conditions of pregnant detainee Beraa in Damon Prison

In the statement made by the Palestinian Prisoners and Released Delegation, it was stated that the lawyer of 36-year-old Beraa, who has been detained since August 27, informed the delegation officials after meeting with him in prison.

In the statement, it was noted that while Beraa was taken into custody, his eyes and hands were tightly tied with plastic handcuffs and he was kept in an unknown place for hours.

It was stated that Beraa, who was subjected to a strip search during this period, experienced abdominal pain and subsequent bleeding while being tied to a chair.

It was reported that Beraa was later transferred to Sharon Prison, where he was kept in a cell in poor conditions for about 5 days, without basic needs and water.

The delegation reported that Beraa was later transferred to Damon Prison and stayed in ward number 11, where pregnant women were kept.

Beraa, whose views were included in the statement, noted that the beds they slept in were quite unsuitable for pregnant women, the blankets smelled bad and there were no pillows.

Stating that he was not allowed to take a shower for five days, Beraa stated that he was not given spare clothes or towels.

Beraa stated that the pregnant women in the ward were not given special meals suitable for their needs, and that the food was "little and bad".

Beraa stated that the 3 pregnant prisoners in the ward were given an egg or a piece of meat approximately every 3-4 days, and also stated that there was a shortage of clothes and cleaning materials.

The Palestinian Prisoners and Released Delegation stated that pregnant detainees need special medical care, proper nutrition and humane conditions, and noted that there is concern about the health of Beraa and her baby.

According to the delegation, 81 Palestinian women are being held in Damon Prison, excluding those under interrogation.

According to data from Palestinian human rights organizations, there are 9,350 Palestinians in Israeli prisons, including 90 women and 350 children.

Damon Prison, located in the north of Israel, has recently come to the fore with allegations of serious human rights violations, overcrowded wards and ill-treatment, where mostly Palestinian female detainees are held.
