Woman observes dangerous driving with a Mercedes SUV in the Dresden Forest

When Anja Gruhle went for a walk in a small forest not far from Dresden early in the morning on September 27, 2024, she had no idea what was in store for her. She hikes on a path that meets a very narrow tar road that cuts through the sparse deciduous forest. An older man in sportswear is slowly jogging along the road from the right. She greets him briefly and he says hello back. Anja Gruhle crosses the street and walks along a road uphill deeper into the forest.

Then she sees the car: a massive silver Mercedes SUV standing on the top of the hill at the very edge of the driveway - waiting, almost lurking, half hidden behind leaves. Suddenly the person behind the wheel accelerates and races past her down the hill, takes the curve at breakneck speed and disappears in the direction of the jogger. “Crazy,” thinks Ms. Gruhle, turning around and looking after the crazy man – but there is no license plate on the car. A dull bang echoes through the forest. “He couldn’t have hit the jogger,” she thinks. But no scream can be heard, only the roar of the engine, then the car quickly moves away.
