Friedrich Merz supports Munich as a German Olympic candidate

After the decision in favor of Munich as the German Olympic candidate, Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his hope for possible games in his own country. «The Olympics belong to Germany. Munich is our candidate for the application, the whole of Germany is behind it. We want to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to us - for goosebumps, great successes, unforgettable moments and a whole country that is excited," wrote the CDU politician on X.

At its extraordinary general meeting in Baden-Baden, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) decided in favor of Munich and against the Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr region. The Bavarian capital should now enter the race for Germany to host the games in 2036, 2040 or 2044.
