Bus accident on BR-122 in Iraquara leaves eight dead and nine seriously injured

Of the 12 surviving victims of the bus accident on BR-122, on Friday (25), in the rural area of ​​Iraquara, in Chapada Diamantina, nine are in serious condition. Three of them are in a non-serious health condition.

The accident left 8 dead. Seven died at the scene, and an eighth victim was rescued, received medical attention, but could not resist his injuries and died in a health unit, reported the State Health Department (Sesab).

After the rescue, the injured were taken to the Seabra Regional Hospital. As TV Bahia found, after initial assessment and risk classification, the following conditions were identified:

03 non-severe patients;

02 with chest trauma;

04 patients had fractures;

01 patient was taken to the surgical center;

01 patient had traumatic brain injury (TBI);

01 still does not have an update on his health status.

The accident happened at 11:30 pm, between the cities of Seabra and Iraquara. The vehicle belongs to the company Rio Real and had 22 people on board when it overturned on the highway.

Two people were rescued without injuries from the accident, both bus drivers.

The vehicle departed from Fortaleza, in Ceará, and was destined for Palmas, in the state of Tocantins.

Rescue teams removed three bodies from the wreckage. Four other bodies were located after the bus collapsed and they were two men, a woman and a child. Their ages and names have not yet been released.

One of the victims is Bahia Military Police soldier, Lucas José Jesus Santana. He was assigned to the 28th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM), in Ibotirama, and was in uniform at the time of the accident.

The soldier graduated from the Military Police on December 5, 2025. He was married and left two children, a boy and a girl. The body will be buried in Bom Jesus da Lapa. Information about the wake and burial was not released by the family.

The General Commander of the Military Police of Bahia, Colonel Antônio Carlos Silva Magalhães, issued a note of condolence lamenting the death of the soldier and the other victims of the accident.

"To the family of Private Lucas, to his brothers in uniform from the 28th CIPM and to all those who shared his journey with him in the Military Police of Bahia, I express, on behalf of our entire troop, my most sincere solidarity", says an excerpt from the text.

The Public Security Secretariat of Bahia (SSP-BA) also released a note expressing solidarity with the family, friends and colleagues of the fatal victims, including soldier Lucas José. The department highlighted that all measures to investigate the causes of the accident are being adopted by the Civil Police and the Technical Police Department.

The Military Police, Fire Department and Technical Police Department (DPT) were called to the incident.
