Bus that overturned in Bahia and left people dead left Fortaleza bound for Palmas (TO)

A bus going from Fortaleza to Palmas overturned in Iraquara, Bahia, this Friday (25). The accident caused at least 8 deaths and left 12 injured.

The vehicle was carrying 22 passengers and 2 drivers when it overturned. The injured victims were taken to area hospitals.

Rescue teams removed 3 bodies from the wreckage. Another 4 were found after the vehicle was uncovered, including 2 men, 1 woman and 1 child.

The cause of the accident is still to be determined. The company Real Maia reported that it sent representatives to the location and provided necessary assistance to passengers.

Soldier Lucas José Jesus Santana, who was traveling in uniform as a hitchhiker, is the only identified victim. The Public Security Secretariat is investigating the causes of the accident.

The bus that fell on the BR-122 in the municipality of Iraquara, Bahia, on Friday night (25), departed from Fortaleza, Ceará, and was destined for the capital of Tocantins, Palmas. At least 8 people died and 12 were injured, until the publication of this article.

The accident occurred around 11:30 pm this Friday, when the bus fell onto the road. The vehicle carried 22 passengers and two drivers. Among the victims is a soldier from the Bahia Military Police. The identities of the other victims have not yet been revealed.

The bus, which left Fortaleza, is part of the fleet of the company Real Maia, which reported having sent representatives to the scene of the accident and providing support to passengers and their families.

"Since the incident, the entire Real Maia team has been mobilized. The company has moved representatives to the location, contacted the insurance company and is providing the necessary assistance to passengers and their families," the company said on social media.

The injured people received first aid on site and were taken to health units in the region: 12 victims to the Seabra Regional Hospital and one to the Américo Chagas Municipal Hospital, in Iraquara. One person died after the rescue.

Rescue teams removed three bodies from the vehicle's wreckage. Four other bodies were located after the bus collapsed and they were two men, a woman and a child.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The circumstances are still to be determined. The Military Police and Fire Department were called and responded to the incident throughout the early hours of Saturday (26).

The only victim identified so far is a soldier from the Bahia Military Police, Lucas José Jesus Santana, assigned to the 28th CIPM/Ibotirama. Born in Bahia, he was hitchhiking and was in uniform at the time of the accident.

The Public Security Secretariat of Bahia (SSP-BA) issued a note expressing solidarity with the family, friends and colleagues of the fatal victims, including soldier Lucas José. The department highlighted that all measures to investigate the causes of the accident are being adopted by the Civil Police and the Technical Police Department.
