Bahia Military Police soldier among eight fatal victims of bus accident on BR-122

Bahia Military Police soldier, Lucas José Jesus Santana, one of the eight fatal victims of the bus accident recorded on BR-122, on Friday night (25), in the rural area of ​​Iraquara, in Chapada Diamantina, was riding in the vehicle.

According to the corporation, he was assigned to the 28th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM), in Ibotirama, and was in uniform at the time of the accident.

Soldier Lucas José Santana graduated from the Military Police on December 5, 2025. He was married and left two children, a boy and a girl. The body will be buried in Bom Jesus da Lapa. Information about the wake and burial was not released by the family.

The General Commander of the Military Police of Bahia, Colonel Antônio Carlos Silva Magalhães, issued a note of condolence lamenting the death of the soldier and the other victims of the accident.

"To the family of Private Lucas, to his brothers in uniform from the 28th CIPM and to all those who shared his journey with him in the Military Police of Bahia, I express, on behalf of our entire troop, my most sincere solidarity", says an excerpt from the text.

The Public Security Secretariat of Bahia (SSP-BA) also released a note expressing solidarity with the family, friends and colleagues of the fatal victims, including soldier Lucas José. The department highlighted that all measures to investigate the causes of the accident are being adopted by the Civil Police and the Technical Police Department.

Lucas was one of 22 people on board the Rio Real company bus. The accident happened at 11:30 pm on Friday (25). The vehicle departed from Fortaleza, in Ceará, and was destined for Palmas, in the state of Tocantins.

The injured people received first aid at the scene of the accident, approximately 15km from Iraquara, and were taken to two health units in the region:

The Military Police, Fire Department and Technical Police Department (DPT) were called to the incident.

Rescue teams removed three bodies from the bus's wreckage. After the vehicle was toppled, four other bodies were located: two men, a woman and a child. The eighth victim was rescued and received medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.

The identities of the other victims have not yet been released.

Two people were rescued without injuries from the accident, both bus drivers.
