Pd-Psoe front against Frederiksen on the migration line

Common front between the Democratic Party and the Spanish socialists against Mette Frederiksen.

The Dem foreign affairs manager, Peppe Provenzano, and the vice-president of the European Parliament and member of the PSOE, Javi Lopez, have written to the president of the European Socialist Party, Stefan Lofven, to contest the Danish prime minister's line on Ceuta and bring the case to the table of the European Socialists at the first possible meeting.

"European solidarity cannot be selective - we read in the letter -. It is unacceptable that, while another European partner was facing exceptional pressure, a member of our own political family chose to align himself, in a coordinated way, with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who had just decided to suspend Schengen in a purely propaganda move, since from Ceuta there is no freedom of movement towards the EU".

"This episode is part of a broader, coordinated and increasingly structural political agenda. It adopts the framework of the radical right, which describes migration as a permanent emergency just as irregular arrivals in Europe have dropped dramatically - around 40% since the beginning of the year - fueling a politically opportunistic climate of alarm and fear", we read further.

"We were united when Italy faced exceptional migratory pressure in Lampedusa, when some member states suffered the exploitation of migrants from Belarus, when President Trump threatened Greenland and European sovereignty. This is the solidarity on which the European project is built and which gives it strength and direction", say Provenzano and Javi Lopez.
