Former Saxon integration commissioner calls for centralization of deportation procedures

The former Saxon integration commissioner, CDU politician Geert Mackenroth, has spoken out in favor of nationwide centralization of deportation procedures. “Every German immigration authority handles things differently today,” said the lawyer to the “Leipziger Volkszeitung”. Local immigration authorities are also overwhelmed by deportation practices. From Mackenroth's point of view, too little happens with violent offenders and serious criminals.

In addition, immigration authorities are having increasing difficulty finding suitable and trained staff due to numerous legal pitfalls. “I would therefore be in favor of centralizing the procedures nationwide. If the federal government sets up the rules of the game, it should also enforce them. He always has the help of the local police,” continued Mackenroth.

Mackenroth was a member of the state parliament in Saxony for around 15 years and was the Saxon integration commissioner from 2014 until last year. From 2004 to 2009 he was also Saxony's Minister of Justice. He did not run again in the 2024 state election.
