Data leak at the DGFIP: 678,000 taxpayers affected, the first individual alerts this Monday

This Monday, August 17, the tax administration must begin to contact people who are victims of the data leak which affected its services a few weeks ago, announced last Thursday. “The users concerned will be contacted individually from Monday August 17, with details of the data likely to have been exposed and the vigilance measures to be adopted,” indicate the Prime Minister’s services. Friday August 14, the director general of the tax administration, Amélie Verdier, apologized to taxpayers during a briefing organized for the press. The opportunity for the representative to once again confirm the theft of data which targeted the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFIP) and which concerns 678,000 individuals and professionals, to call on those affected to exercise caution, and to further detail the contours of this “serious” event. The stolen information is indeed a blessing for potential scammers, who can, thanks to this data, strengthen their schemes to deceive their victims or usurp their identity. The executive promises to learn lessons from this data theft which affected hundreds of thousands of taxpayers. A meeting is taking place this Monday afternoon, around Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, to take stock of this issue. The meeting should in particular make it possible to monitor the progress of a plan to secure administrations, after several large-scale hacks.
