Five years in prison after desecrating corpses in hospital in Bünde

A 39-year-old is expected to go to prison for five years for desecrating seven corpses in a hospital in Bünde in North Rhine-Westphalia. After the man's comprehensive confession, the Bielefeld regional court considered it proven that the father of the family had repeatedly sexually assaulted the dead in the hospital's cold room. The verdict is not yet final. A review, the so-called revision, by the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe is still possible.

The regional court thus fell well short of the public prosecutor's demand, which had demanded nine years' imprisonment. In addition to disturbing the peace of the dead, the regional court also convicted the man of theft, house burglary, two attempted arsons and possession of child pornography.

The 39-year-old made a comprehensive confession during the trial. He justified the break-ins with an addiction problem and the necessary financing. In his verdict, the presiding judge Thorsten Bolte emphasized that the convict had agreed but had not given an answer to the question of how the corpse was desecrated. This is all difficult to explain and a case that rarely concerns a judge in his career, said Bolte.

The now convicted man had lost his job in the hospital shortly before the crimes and still had access to the building.
