Suspected IS member arrested in Hesse

The Federal Prosecutor's Office has arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in Hesse.

The man named Nuri A. - born in Kuwait - is said to have joined the association in Iraq at the beginning of 2016 at the latest and was deployed as a fighter until spring 2017. According to a statement from the Federal Prosecutor's Office, he worked “in various units of the organization.” Germany's top prosecutors accuse him of membership in a terrorist organization abroad.

Officials from the Federal Criminal Police Office arrested the accused in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse this morning. During the course of the day he will be brought before an investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice, who will issue an arrest warrant and decide on his pre-trial detention.
