Murder trial after fatal shots in Nienburg in the ex-RAF hall in Verden

A murder trial against a 32-year-old will start there on October 29, 2026, as a spokeswoman for the Verden regional court said when asked by dpa.

According to the investigation, the man is said to have shot a 37-year-old at the beginning of May.

The man died at the scene. A passer-by suffered injuries so severe that he was paralyzed.

Investigators believe he was a random victim.

The “district newspaper” had previously reported on the new process in the riding arena.

According to investigators, the background to the crime in Nienburg is a dispute between members of large families.

Shortly before the crime, there was a hearing before the Verden regional court in which seven people were charged with grievous bodily harm - including the 37-year-old who was later killed.

The proceedings were discontinued upon payment of a fine.

The fatal shots were fired hours later.

The now accused 32-year-old with German and Syrian citizenship was arrested after the crime and was taken into custody - for murder and attempted murder.

The district court is expecting a lot of spectators and therefore wants to hear in the hall that was converted for the Klette trial, as the spokeswoman said.

Since the verdict at the end of May, the area of ​​a former riding stable, which was converted into a high-security wing, has been unused.

In the courtroom, the audience sits behind a security window.

According to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice, the rental of the facility, including expenses for the renovation, costs around 3.6 million euros.

The contract runs until the end of May 2027 and can be extended if necessary.
