Prison sentences after the robbery of Gianluigi Donnarumma in Paris

A little more than three years after the brutal robbery of Italy's national soccer goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner Alessia Elefante, two defendants have been sentenced to several years in prison in Paris.

The Paris criminal court found Ilyas K., who was considered the mastermind, guilty and imposed a prison sentence of nine years and a fine of 80,000 euros. Co-defendant Moktar D. received five years in prison, including two years on probation. A third defendant, Khyan M., was acquitted.

Donnarumma and Elefante were victims of a violent break-in in their luxury apartment on Avenue Montaigne in central Paris in the early hours of July 21, 2023.

According to the court, four masked perpetrators entered the building via the roofs, tied up the couple and threatened them with knives. The goalkeeper was beaten bloody and his partner was strangled with a cell phone charger cable. The perpetrators stole cash, jewelry, watches and luxury bags. Donnarumma estimated the value of the loot at just under one million euros.

At the time of the crime, the 2021 European champion was under contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but he now plays for Manchester City in England. According to the prosecution, it was a particularly violent attack that was carried out by a group of seven people. Some of those involved have not yet been identified.

The public prosecutor's office had demanded prison sentences of between four and ten years.
