Hong Kong man sentenced to 22 years for raping daughter

A Hong Kong court has sentenced a man to 22 years in prison for repeatedly raping his daughter since she was 13, with the judge saying the penalty could not make up for the ordeal the victim suffered and calling it one of the worst sexual assault cases involving a biological father that he had ever seen.

High Court judge Eric Kwok Tung-ming on Tuesday handed down the sentence to the 48-year-old defendant, whom he described as lacking “an ounce of kindness” towards his daughter, whom he raped 14 times at home between 2014 and 2024.

Kwok praised the victim for finding the courage to report the case to police in April 2024, when she was 23, putting an end to the years of sexual abuse she had suffered.

Before that, she was raped four times in 2024 alone, between February and April that year, with three of the incidents taking place a week apart.

The defendant pleaded guilty to 14 counts of rape and one count of buggery.

Citing a psychologist’s report on the defendant, Kwok noted that the construction worker had shown “superficial remorse” for his crimes.
