Fire in a building in Lucca: two dead and 13 injured

Two people died in a fire, a man and a woman, last night in Lucca, in the San Vito district. The two died in a three-storey building where a fire broke out due to causes currently under investigation by the firefighters. The intervention was in a building in via Bertini on the corner with via Corsica. There were 13 injuries, with varying degrees of severity, including children.

The firefighters also took a newborn to safety from the three-storey building where there was a large fire that started on the ground floor. The families had fled to the balconies to await help. The two bodies were found at the end of the firefighting operations. The state police were also on site to carry out investigations.

Meanwhile, the Municipality has taken steps to provide temporary accommodation to the evacuated tenants. The building is now unusable.

Among the injured, a woman was the most serious and was taken under code red to the Large Burns Center in Pisa. Nine of the injured were hospitalized under yellow code in the hospitals of Lucca, Versilia and Pisa, three under green code.
