Brother is arrested on suspicion of participating in his sister's death in Jaru, RO

João Vitor dos Santos Gonçalves, 24, was arrested on Thursday morning (24), suspected of participating in the death of his own sister. To g1, delegate Maria Braga explained that suspicions about his participation in the crime arose, above all, due to "suspicious behavior".

"Cold, he didn't show any feelings, he was in a hurry to bury his sister, according to information, he avoided joining the family at the burial", stated the delegate.

Poliana dos Santos Gonçalves, 31 years old, was found dead inside her own house, with her hands and legs tied and her eyes blindfolded. The body also had several punctures caused by a sharp object. It was João Vitor himself who called the police.

The case is confidential. The Civil Police did not release information about how they came to the conclusion that João Vitor was involved in the crime.

João Vitor's arrest took place in Jaru (RO). The preventive arrest warrant was issued by the Rondônia Court. According to the Rondônia Criminal Police, the suspect was admitted to the Augusto Simon Kempe Regional Resocialization Center on Thursday (24).

Four other people are suspected of involvement in the crime; two deceased and two arrested. The names were not disclosed.

João Vitor dos Santos Gonçalves published a video on social media shortly after the funeral, in March. In the images he appears crying, says he found the body and says that one of his first reactions was to pray.

"I had the misfortune of finding the body. I was talking to a friend of mine and I was surprised. I told him: 'bro, I found my sister's body'. And then I pulled out my phone and called a police friend, then I prayed. That's what I felt like doing at the time and I prayed, and all I've done so far is pray," he says in the video published in March.

During the recording, he also spoke about the moment of the wake and said that he tried to stay strong to take care of his family. According to João Vitor, Poliana was his only sister and her death left him with a feeling of emptiness.

“Of course I'm sad, I feel a huge feeling of emptiness, because she was my sister, my only sister, unfortunately, but God will calm me down", he said.

Throughout the video, João Vitor asked family and friends not to rebel against God over Poliana's death and spoke about his faith. He also thanked the people who supported the family during the wake and said he believes "everything will be revealed."

"I trust Christ so much, I was raised within the church, I had a great upbringing, great discipline, I trust him so much, and my heart is so at peace, so at peace," he says.

The video generated a lot of empathy and commotion among the population. Several people commented on the post offering condolences and wishing strength.

According to the delegate, this is not the first time that João Vitor has been arrested. In July he became the target of a home search warrant. On that occasion, he was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
